Kirk,
Our club tournament put out a 4.9lb smallie Saturday, and a 5.7lb smallie Sunday. The fishing was pretty crumby Saturday, but got hot right before weigh in "noon" on Sunday. Steve, and I were the two you talked to at the campground. Chelan was pretty disapointing this trip, but lake X made it all worth while! See ya out there next time.

Our family chose Lake Chelan this year as the location for our annual summer camping trip and I was not disappointed in the smallie fishing.  We arrived at the Mill Bay launch each morning at 5am and generally stayed on the water everyday until the boat traffic became too much for us, which usually was around 11am.  Fished familiar areas and also some exploring of new areas.  Most of our good fish, of which we caught many over 2lbs and a number over 3 including the big fish of the week at 4.4, came in the mornings fishing rock near deeper water.  I know some docks that consistently hold fish all summer and fall, and they did not disappoint.  I also applied a strategy that we had heard about from the Snodgrass boat at Roosvelt and found some good fish along steep rock walls hiding in the shaded areas.  Drop shots and senkos worked very well all week long and we also had good luck on hula grubs.  The topwater bite was finiky, but we did manage to catch enough fish to determine that they would take a topwater if presented in the preferred manner for the fish, which varied.  Overall, learned alot and had a ton of fun.  Some pics can be found on facebook if you are interested.  We stayed at Kamei all week and visited orchards, water parks, casino's and one day just flat out did nothing.  All in all, a great trip.
