Quite a story Larry.  Never heard of that happening before.  Exhilerating, yet disappointing at the same time.  What a ride!

Hope you get her soon!

Larry,

Looks as though the Mortimer 8-8 that I caught with you a couple of years back grew up.
Nice story, got me thinking about my giant with you at Sawyer. I have seen several fish in there about 9-10 that I would love to get my hands on for a pic.

Dang Larry.... that was a close call!!! Don't you just hate other men interfering with things when you're about to hit on their women?

Nice commentary, it almost left me with shaking hands imagining it on your behalf.

Glad to hear the trim is good to go. I'll be seeing ya on Banks, I have a great offer of a backseat with Bob Payseno, he's pre-fishing this weekend - so we can fill those huge livewells  Roll Eyes

Again friends...I am drawn by the magnetism of the great one....MORTIMER....I went fishing on Sawyer to test the new part on the trim relay...which worked great by the way....and went to a common bulkhead that has....in the past, been a magnet for Girthy Largemouth.
I had fished for about four hours with only two fish to show for my efforts when I threw a Kinami Mistake flash against said bulkhead and let it sink....I lifted it to find my line trailing towards deep water...when I set the hook I knew I was in trouble....6-1/2 ft med-lt rod...8 lb test...#1 EWG hook..........It was on!! saw a wake it put up as it went left and right four times....started toward a stump....just missed it!!! went for the back of the boat.....just missed the prop!!!...cruised by the boat.........and I heard Chief Brodies words again...."Quint....were gonna need a bigger boat!!"
I saw, what was the biggest Largemouth I have seen to date.......Had to be over 9 pounds as the male that was her escort was over 7!! I began literally shaking....she jumped 1-2 ft in the air and darted to 12 ft of water.....ZZZZZZZZING!!! my drag rang as the fish had her way with it!...I picked up the net and put it by my feet......she came back up...looking tired on her side...and I began dragging her to the boat when the male "Rammed" her in the side and she jumped again....throwing my hook into the boat!!....never have I ever seen this before and never want to see it again...at least not with these size fish!

Mr. and Mrs. Mortimer are alive and kicking!  Wink

The NITRO IS BACK!!! John Harris and I hit Sawyer at Noon-ish on Saturday to begin the break-in process - no start and batteries running out, while we were drifting and trying to sort out some connection issues we got soaked to the skin. First time out we ran into a few electrical problems and had to re-trailer the boat using only the trolling motor.

We got hold of a Plastic 55gal drum and popped the lower unit into it, found the connections that weren't correct and put them both in order.... it fired up straight away and I have never seen so much smoke (from the oil used to assemble everything I guess). Eventually the smoke cleared, we went back to Sawyer in time to meet Larry leaving. We got out and started the break-in,  10 minutes at idle, then no more than 3000RPM but did get up to about 22mph once. after almost 30 minutes we decided to stop the motor and let it rest for a bit while we fished a couple of docks....just then the sky opened up and we were swamped, the decks were awash and then came the hailstones as big as peas!!!

A major adventure, but the Green Machine is reporting for duty, and will be at the Columbia River, not fully broken-in but close.

Seeya at the meeting!!!

Hey Gang...hit Sawyer Sat and it was worth the rain and thunder as the fish are bedding and big time! Got 12 fish none under 1 1/2 lbs and not over 3.2 lbs....most on beds but some were females near structure close to beds but not locked. still have not seen brood males guarding fry so things look to still getting started! Hope to hit Washington Sun. Larry.

I had a small Saturday morning trip to Sawyer.  I can't figure that lake out.  I managed only three 5 inchers.  I did break a hook off in one fish though.  I hit Washington on Sunday and managed a 3.7 smallie redeem my weekend.
