This process is easy to perform if you cut your line first. Been doing it forever since we fished walleyes with live bait back home alot. Use needle nose and be careful around the gills. Mark

Yes, it does work very well, the more you fish with your kids, the more often you get to practice. I have found though if you have a pair of split-ring pliers you can use those to grab the line from under the gill alot easier. Brian (The Weedwalker)

I've had to removed hooks like that before. I never read anything, it just seemed logical to go through the gill to get the hook angled right. It works really well. Glad I was doing it right. I wasn't sure if it was better to cut the line and leave the kook or not. Guess it is better to remove it.
