Boaters Exam

Well, 2013 showed up and I finally have to take the boaters exam. Anyone recommend one online course over the others? A friend of mine told me the one he is taking requires you to stay on each page for a certain amount of time and he has 5+ hours into it already.

Thanks

That's a good question.  When I took mine I think there was only one option.  It took me 3 hours, because I went through the material word for word, trying to learn.  I still don't know anything about river channel markers and such.   Embarrassed

Anyone have a good answer for Stu ?

Took me 6 hours to complete from start to finish
expect a lot of repetition. I started at 4pm ended at 10 on my office computer.

Thanks guys. My friend told me today that the one that took him so long was the free one- Boat US.

I think I am going to take one that sends you the card directly.

I took the free one, and it took me 6hrs to go through it.  There just isn't a fast way around it.  It sucks too, because there's a ton of saltwater stuff that I'll never, ever, ever need to use.  I really don't have any need to know how many miles out to sea I have to be before I can dump waste water!

It has taken me over 40 years, and all it cost me was a lot of time on the water since I was 11Yr. old. Grin  While I never had to pay anyone formally, and along the way I was certified as a Master Small Craft Operator by the U.S.C.G (boats up to 40 ft.) and the U.S. Army COE.  I also learned extremely shallow water navigation via the school of hard knocks and low water levels in the Dunes. Dan and I did the at home study course (bottom of the web page linked in first post).  They sent us the exam booklet with boaters manual.  It was free and we did it on our own time.  It took about a minute per exam question to complete.

This is the year all boaters 59 years of age and under operating a boat or personal watercraft of 15 hp or greater must have their Washington State Boaters Education Card. I just completed the course. www.boat-ed.com/washington/index.html. ; Get-r-done!
