Well after filing my 2007 taxes this past weekend, I was in a big funk because of how much I had to pay over my withholdings.  (A Lot) Cry  I tried to console myself by saying "If you didn't make so much on your investments, you would not have had to pay so much due to capital gains on those investments. Undecided
That sounds good and is true, but it still hurts to write a check for as much as I did. Tongue
When I got home from work last night and checked my mail, I had a check from the state for $56.00. Smiley   Not a huge amount, but never-the-less something back from some govt. agency. Smiley
It was my fuel tax rebate on all the fuel I used in my boat for last year and it made me smile a little bit. Smiley
The really neat thing was I filed the request on the 19th of March and got the rrefund on the 31st!  Shocked
I can't imagine a government agency being so efficient.Smiley
Save your receipts for 2008 and you can take a little bit of the edge off of these super-high fuel costs. Smiley

Only the fuel that is used in non-highway use, I.E. your lawn mower, your hydro-blaster, a weed-eater, etc. are eligible for the rebate Kirk.

I've been doing this for years, but this is by far the quickest response I've ever had. Smiley

Smitty - How much did you spend in gas to get $56 bucks back?  I figure that I easily spent over $1250 on fuel for boat, tractor, quad, etc., last year.

I don't know Kirk.  Undecided I just saved the credit card receipts, arranged them in order, totaled the gallons used, and sent the whole mess in with the form provided.  They figured out the tax based on the gallons used, which I don't remember.  The state then sent me a check for $56,44.

I will be sure to save receipts this season!  Does not seem terribly difficult to do and like you say, who doesn't like having a check in the mail. Cool

The club used to do this years ago as a fund-raiser.  However, it moved on to bigger and better things and I continued the practice as an individual. Smiley

I get from $30.00 to $45.00 back every year.  This year was more because of the added tax here in the Puget Sound area I guess. Smiley

Smitty, do I have to apply for a permit, or just save the reciepts for the year AND APPLY AT THE END?
