Banks Lake: An Oasis, or Mudhole?

That's the question to be answered at a meeting on Wednesday at Coulee City.  The Bureau of Reclamation needs more water for the farmers because the Odessa Aquifer is drying up.
Among the proposals that are the least expensive, are to draw Banks Lake down as much as 17' during July, August & September.  An alternative is to raise the level by 2' (flooded campgrounds and perhaps parts of the highway) so that the draw-down won't be as dramatic and severe.
Either solution would put newly hatched fry in peril when the lake is pulled down so much.  Smiley
The story is still developing, but hopefully I'll have more information at the club meeting.

Smitty,

Thanks for the heads-up. I would definitely be interested in hearing more about this. Please post any articles you run across, and I will do the same. I'm going to do some more reading about this.

Thanks,
Chris
