First thing I do with my new trolling motor is replace the rope with a metal cable, using the same handle, etc...  If that snaps, you got a real problem!  (Gee, Russ... if I knew someone in the fastener industry that wanted to partner with an ex-metal shop teacher to go into the replacement trolling motor cord business...  Grin!
