Boat Insurance?

It's time to put insurance on the new boat and was wondering who you all go thru. What are some of the better companies that you guys have gone with?

Also, what coverage do you  guys put on your boats? I know that I have to have 100k for are club events but what about larger events? Do they require larger amounts? I just want to get a nice policy that will not restrict me from a tourny last minute.

Mike,

For your new boat you will be required to atleast have $300k in coverage. I personally use State Farm and have had no problems at all with them. Coverage for me is replacement value if boat is totalled so make sure you have this otherwise you could be in for a real hurt.

Mike, I also have State Farm and have had great luck. My agent is the best I've had and would recommend him. Mark Mullins - 253-845-7575.
I also have an "option F". I means that my boat motor and trailer are at $500 ded but everything else is at $100 ded. Nice if you lose a rod/reel off the deck huh Russ. LOL

All insurance companies seem great until you have a claim. I would get feedback from people who have had claim issues like Dave Jarrell. I am not saying you two haven't had claims, it's just a good point when buying insurance.

The insurance company we had on our previous Skeeter boat --  wouldn't insure our new boat . . . we now have Progressive -- so we'll see how they treat us after this current claim since we've only had them for just over a year.

Mike you also can add an "umbella" policy to your home owner's insurance to cover for any major tragedies that could happen, which would be coverage over and above what your boat policy would cover -- Lord knows I added that to ours a couple years ago. . .

Mike,
I had a claim once. Complete lower unit. Left most of it at Scootenay Res. State Farm took care of it in a couple of days. I told my agent I had a tourney the next weekend. Auburn Sports did the work and State Farm came through(our agent)with flying colors. We fished the tourney the next weekend.

Thanks for the help and opinions. I ended up canceling my account thru progressive and switching over to Farmers. We have everything thru the same guy. My parents have used him for 25+ years. Farmers uses a company that they own called Foremost. They beat Progressive and with better coverage. I got 300k for uninsured motorist, 300k for basic liability, and 500k for collision and medical. Plus they insure it at the stated value not the by back value. So in four years they will still give me the purchase price. I think thats sweet. They also gave me a pretty good discount for having a Coast Guard Captains License.

Kirk, I don't really like to call it a "trailer". When people here that they tend to think of trailer trash. I prefer to call it "the RV". It really is suprisingly nice inside. Shannon has really done great job on the inside.

I'll say she did a nice job, Mike. Thanks for having me over for dinner last week. I'm not sure that you'd really want me to show these, but here are the pics I took in "the RV."

I also took a picture of your dog, Killer. You should really chain him up. He almost took my leg off.
