Latest e-mail on the event:

Hello Fishing Captains,

When you registered for Saturday’s C.A.S.T. for Kids event, we were operating under the “no fishing” at Lake Washington and your job was to be a fishing captain for a kid (fish with them on shore at the net) and take them on their boat ride. Now that the fishing restriction is removed, we can have you take the kids out on the water fishing (like normal).

We are going to ask the kids what they want to do – stay on shore to fish or go out fishing on the water. Generally you are going to go out fishing like normal. Please be flexible – and be available to do whatever the kids what to do. We have a few boats who’ll be giving boat rides to the kids that stay on shore to fish (and we have shore fisherman to stay with those kids too).

We’ll see you in the morning by 7:30a. And we’ll go over this all at the boaters meeting.

Thanks everyone for being flexible this year!

Hi Rodney,

Thanks for signing up to be a boat captain. Would you take a minute to forward this email to anyone you think might be interested in coming to volunteer? (I heard that Larry can’t come, and I did send an email to Karl Kramer – though I am not remembering who else is in the Western Bass Club at the moment.) I’d appreciate it!

C.A.S.T. for Kids – Lake Washington (Coulon Park, Renton) on September 10th

Less than 3 weeks till we get to take special kids fishing! Please go sign-up online so I know we’ll have enough fisherman & boaters to take the 50 kids out!

The story, as it continues to unravel: the fishing restriction on Lake Washington forced us to change the format of the event. We will have trout in nets for the kids to catch, as well as several shore activities, including: boat rides, casting practice, craft activity, interacting with the Renton Fire Water Safety Team diver while he is underwater, and a face painter! Now, WDFW has removed the fishing restriction which means we can go fishing on the lake, but it is too late for me to cancel all of these great shore activities. So, we will make it a “Choose Your Own Adventure” for the kids – go fishing on the lake, on shore, both and/or do it all.

I have 8 fishing volunteers signed up so far – I need 50! And this year, that includes boat captains (giving boat rides), fishing captains (normal format of taking kid out fishing), shore fisherman (no boat, helping a kid fish on shore). Again please sign-up today and let me know your preferred role! And please forward this email to others you know who you think would enjoy sharing a day of fishing with a special kid!

Take a Warrior Fishing (TWF) – American Lake on September 24th

You can also sign up to take a warrior out fishing. Again, due to the fishing restriction on Lake Washington we decided to move the event to American Lake North Park this year. The launch fees have been waived for us by the City of Lakewood, and we will have lunch for everyone, served lunch by the Steilacoom Kiwanis club.

Thanks in advance for all of your support of C.A.S.T. for Kids! I hope you find the value in these events and will share about them with others – to come volunteer and/or to consider donating to help.

I look forward to seeing you in September,

Had communication with Jessica Kelly this morning, I asked the same question with referrance to Lake Washington now being open.

Her response, "Yes I just heard also. Event was still on, had to make some changes and the rollercoaster continues... Regardless, we take kids fishing! Go register on the website for me, that way I can send you emails with updates."
