Thanks Russ!  The prototype was sent off to Canada and is now being evaluated.  It turned out really well - surprised even myself.  My contact at Scotty was very pleased with the prototype.  Now we cross our fingers and wait while their product evaluation team tests it and runs it through every possible scenario. Then "bean counters" estimate sales potential, and they run the numbers to see if there's enough of a profit in it.

It is a long slow process and you need the patience of a fisherman to deal with the snail pace of large corporations - but that's OK... I IS a fisherman!  Or will be again soon if I can get a couple of these product concepts licensed.  It sometimes takes as long as two years from "napkin idea" until it becomes a "product on the store shelves", so patience and poverty run together for a while. haha

If anyone has any great ideas for inventions - let me know.  I can give you advice, ...or work with you on it - (if the concept excites me! lol)

I sure appreciate the way you guys take care of each other and am proud to have been a part of Western Bass Club for all those years.  I hope to return soon.  Thanks guys for the support!

Hi Guys,

This is Chuck Bailey, or "The Rev" as some of you used to call me.  It's been a while since I've been around - and I miss the club badly.  I retired early from the ministry three years ago, and I ran my website "Crankbait Central" for a year and a half - but it didn't pan out financially.  I had readers from 178 countries, but when I went to the crankbait companies for advertising funding, the recession had them laying off prostaffers and cutting back on advertising.  Budgets were tight and only the most prolific of fishing sites were getting their business.  Timing is everything.

So a year ago I started a Product Development Company (a dream from my younger days) and have been busy inventing and designing consumer products and working to get them licensed with manufacturing companies.  I've had two products chosen so far and I am working hard to get other concepts accepted.

As a result of a recent project, I need your help.  I submitted a recent product idea to the down-rigger and rod-holder company called Scotty.  I can't tell you what the product is, (we signed a NDA - non-disclosure agreement), but they saw my renderings and expressed interest.  I can't get too excited because it may never go anywhere.  Still, here's where I need you help.

The Scotty Company has asked for a prototype (which this old shop teacher can build), BUT... I need some Scotty Rod Holder parts to build my idea upon.  Naturally I have boxes of old fishing components in my garage, but darn it -no Scotty parts!  Dang.  If you happen to have any Scotty Deck Mounts or a broken Rod-holders that still have a good insertion post on it - (the part that goes into the deck mount),  I'd love to take it off your hands.

I confess - it takes a year to two before any income starts to come in from royalties, so in the mean time I'm surviving but struggling financially.  I could go down and buy some new ones (and still may have to) but if I can save a buck or two and you don't need those spare Scotty parts, I'd sure be blessed by your donation.

I sure miss WBC, and my goal is to get back on my feet and join you soon.  I haven't been fishing in three years and it's killing me!!!  I sold my boat and truck two years ago to kick start my business, and I'm still grieving! haha.  But when you see me come back to WBC it will mean I'm back on my feet and ready to wet a line!  Thanks for listening - and I hope your live-wells stay full!

Chuck Bailey
