Thanks all.  This tournament was a blast.  Like Terry said, the river is fairly easy to navigate (except for the logs as the are always on the move  Grin).  I had sturgeon roll in front of my boat both mornings.  Freaked me out a bit as I started having visions of full grown momma sturgeon leaping in my boat while running 60 mph down the river.

The williamette was a long run from our launch site.  The final standings for the tournament show it was an advantage to make the run during that paticular weekend.

Mark said he almost hit a sturgeon, ask him about it.  Shocked I don't think there were any close calls.  The Willamette is very simple river to navigate.  Just remember your buoy colors and which way you are travelling and you'll be fine.  I agree on the time of year, but next year is already scheduled, something to think about for 2013.  Let's make it happen.

Those pictures say it all.  Well done guys !!  Mark, you won it and you haven't been on the Willamette before ?  Is the willy one of the more sketchy to navigate rivers ?  You gotta give a little speech at the meeting about that, not too many details though Wink
So were there any close calls with logs or sand bars for anyone ?  I'm a little sissy when it comes to new places like the river, but I'm going to have to to make it next year  Undecided

Great job mark!  How many guys fished it?  I would agree with most that its a fun fishery, but august may not be the time to go there.

As an ex member of the club who lives in Washougal now, and still trying to figure the bass out, I would really appreciate any info you guys can pass on. Where most of the fish caught on the Willamette ? By Elk Rock Island like last year ?

thanks

Yes Chris it was a 2 day tournament.  It was tough catching fish with any real size... unless your name is Thomas.  Smiley Thomas got "big fish" honors again by catching nearly a 4lb smallie.  Congratulations to Mark B on winning the tournament.  Cool Mark had never fished the Willamette River before but he figured it out really quickly.  It was a really fun tournament despite the small number of participants.  The weather was 97 degrees on Saturday making for some really hot conditions.
