I got an email today from a guy who had read my website concerning bass.  You'll never guess where he is from...

He's Captain Merek Lipowski who runs the Namibian Diamond Mining Vessel (Debmar Pacific) off the coast of South Africa.  They have both smallmouth and largemouth that were imported in the 1930’s from Holland of all places.

He says their Smallmouth Bass record is 7.7lbs and Largemouth bass is 14.5. His personal best is 10.1lb. Obviously they have some big fish around there.

He says the northern provinces are warmer and also have Florida bass so that is where most the records originate. He also says Zimbabwe has lots of bass in the upper teens.

So now I'm curious... do you guys know of any other unusual locations (at least they are unusual to us Americans) where smallmouth and largemouth thrive today in the world?
