I use Lowrance and have always had great luck with them.  I've got front and back LMS 520's right now and couldn't be happier with them.

well i would advise color for sure.  the units i have on my boat are lowrance lms522.  lowrance i believe is the most user friendly from what i've heard.  BUT i will say that out of the box every unit you will buy is not performing up to its capabilities.  check cabelas bargain cave they sometimes have last years model lowrance and humminbird units for sale.

well jim, i will first ask what exactly are you using it for?  what type of lakes do you primarily fish?  the new HDS units look amazing but other lowrance products are great also.  Also i prefer lowrance over hummingbird for both sonar and gps

Cabelas has the HDS5 in their Bargain Cave online right now at as much as $100 off regular pricing depending on the base map installed and the sonar chosen.  Plus there is a rebate out on them also!

If you are purchaseing a new unit, start off with a Lowrance and go with as much as your budget can stand---------and then add a little more. Shocked
The new HD units from Lowrance are simply amazing and some offer the ability to upgrade to side-imaging technology after July of this year Cool.
