I bought the Fortrex 101 lb, 36 volt, 62" shaft, finally got it mounted and wired and used it for the first time at Silver Lake on Saturday.
I love that motor!
I have always been frustrated with my 82 lb Motorguide electric steer. This motor is a whole new world for me.
For the first time, I was able to direct my Lund (which sits up pretty high in the water compared to a bass boat and acts like sail in wind) where I wanted, even around docks and other obstacles in the wind. It is quiet and smooth and powerful. All as billed. The new one-piece arm is solid as a rock.
If you are thinking about upgrading to one of these, I fully recommend making the move. Since we spend 90% or so of our time on the water using the trolling motor, the new motor has really changed my enjoyment of my boat. I no longer have to fight with and worry about my trollling motor all day. Priceless...

Good call on the longer shaft Mike...that way it will stop you BEFORE you run it up on the trailer!!

Stu I have heard good things about them. I also was considering one. My trolling motor has never been the same since I tried to load my boat on the trailer with it down. DumbA#$
The one I was looking at was about $1250.00. I was going to get the 50-52" shaft.

Thanks, Russ.
I would also like to see about buying upgraded bolts, etc. from you to mount it to the boat.

Stu,
When you get it find out the size of the screw and we will get you a security screw so no one jacks your motor.

My current one is a POS. Not enough control in rough water or around docks and laydowns (electric steer Motor Guide).
I need the 62" shaft for the Lund and need to upgrade to the 36v 101 for the power - and I am OK with the price I can get for the benefits.
So, just looking for any red flags before I go ahead.
Thanks, Stu

Is your current one broken?? seems really pricey-vs-the standard models.

Here's something that makes me nervous - "Lifting the motor and bowguard off of the mount is now even easier on Fortrex – just remove a single cap screw."
If that makes it easy to steal the motor, I'm going to end up removing it every time it is not in my sight and having to store it inside somewhere...

Stu,
I am going to buy one this summer as well. I'm going to finally can my Motorguide after running them for over 25 years.

I have read a little bit about it. There has been a few issues with a sticky foot button but I think its an easy fix. They say it is the most solid feeling, quiet, and powerful trolling motor. The new mount really makes a difference. You will love it Stu.
