On large bodies of water I always allow a little extra time to return.  One never knows what they will encounter that can slow them down. Roll Eyes  Barge waves, heavy traffic, strong current, etc.
I recall one time fishing way down near McNary Dam in super calm water.  On the return thru the Wallula Gap, the water looked like the North Atlantic!  Smiley By the time I had passed Casy's Pond, the water was very calm again with only a slight ripple.  The wind in the Tri-Cities, in fact anywhere on the Columbia, can be not only perplexing, but dangerous as well.

Long story short we had 16.92lb of smallmouth in the boat,  nothing under 3lbs, and the river turned into 405 during rush hour..... Lips Sealed Tongue ON the plus side it was a personal best for our heaviest bag of smallmouth. (and they were all spawned out...)
