52" all the way, the 42 is way to short.

Russ
I have a Minn Kota 101 with 52" shaft and sonar.
It is great for rough water. I would not have anything else. But the only draw back is if your fishing shallow water and your skipping docks. You have to raise it and it sticks up there aways. Other then that its a great trolling motor.

I bought the 42" 82lb US one which is standard, but should've bought the 52" shaft. Right now I have the shaft all the way down and if the waves are big, it'll come out of the water making it harder to control the boat. I have the universal sonar and it's easy to connect, but you will lose your temp up front.

What shaft length is prefered-42,52, or 62 inch. Looking at buying spare troll motor for my Skeeter and want to buy the Minn Kota Max 101 with inner sonar. Does anyone have one of these in the club/opinions.
