I broke my cable 2 time then I got smart & put some white grease on the slid pin & all moving parts.

First thing I do with my new trolling motor is replace the rope with a metal cable, using the same handle, etc...  If that snaps, you got a real problem!  (Gee, Russ... if I knew someone in the fastener industry that wanted to partner with an ex-metal shop teacher to go into the replacement trolling motor cord business...  Grin!

Looks like a tool that will work, more important your post is a reminder that I need to replace my back-up pull rope.

I happened to find this devise for Motorguide TMs.  Having owned one (the 1st and definitely the last one Tongue), I can see where this might be helpful when you break the recovery rope.  This will happen, count on it! Grin
