Another way to put it--"its not which one will fail its WHEN any of them will fail."  They all are 2 cycle engines and all will blow sooner or later. Smiley

Nick,

No you make sense. They all have issues sense all manufacturers are trying to be cleaner and more fuel efficient and haven't worked all the bugs out.

What brand are the batteries? Brand-name, or no-brand cheapo's the dealers like to put in...if you don't specify what brand and size you want? Bad place to save a Benjamin.

Ron,

Can you believe Angler's marine told me that if the battery did what I said in my previous post that it would go to safe mode. My boats at Angler's now.

Russ,
I think the "quick fix" for this issue is called A WARRANTY!!!!!!!!!!!!  I wouldn't touch mine with a ten foot pole.  Have you looked under the cowling of that thing?  I wonder where the mechanic puts his screw driver first!!!!!!!!!!  My advise, DON'T TOUCH IT!  Too many many little pieces that I have no idea what they do (if you know what I mean)

Just a wild guess, but if your 12 volt system only gets 11 volts or less it may mean your cranking battery is not getting charge from the alternator in the outboard. If the cranking battery itself was running below 11 volts ( as in a blown battery) all the time I would think you'd have a problem starting the big block up. Perhaps this RPM cut is a way of making sure you have some power to all systems.

I have been told that the reason I lost RPM on saturday was because I had a battery problem. (Starting) That when the starting battery falls below 11 volts that my HPDI will go in safe moad keeping me from going on plane and losing power at console.

Can someone please explain this to me.
