While in Las Vegas this week we drove out to the Hoover Dam, and got out to walk along it.  The canyon walls were amazing and the dam was huge!  It was 105 degrees out and the wind made it seem like a blast furnace!  While looking down on the reservoir side I noticed there was a small shallow water cove just off to one side.  With big rocks running through it, I was thinking that it would be a perfect bass cove.  I was just saying to myself "Ofcourse, even if there were bass in it, there was no way from this distance you were ever going to see fish from way up here"... and then one of the rocks moved!  I wiped my eyes and looked again, and sure enough I was looking at a cat fish that was , well, I guess it was around 6 feet long!  The more I looked in disbelief, the more I realized it was not alone.  I saw 4 others almost as long as the first, but not quite.

A man who was walking by looked down to see what we were gawking at, and then told me he had a friend that worked at the dam for years as a diver who often went down and cleaned out the filter screens when they got blocked.  His friend said he almost messed his wetsuite the first time he turned around and saw a catfish eye the size of softball looking at him.  He claimed there were catfish down there that no one would believe!  After seeing the ones in the shallows - I might tend to believe his stories.  Can you imagine setting the hook on one of those monsters?
