Too pricey for me, I'd be afraid to throw them within 50 yards of anything but bottomless, flat sand!! Knowing my luck I'd still find a way to hang up.

It really all depends on what mood the fish are in. Seldom is a specific color the MOST IMPORTANT thing, but when it is, it is. Those situations are rare enough that it is difficult to plan all your purchases based on the one day every so often when it matters. Just from the wide array of picks on this thread, you can see that many colors will work.
When smallmouths are profiling bait (looking for very specific criteria - shape, size, color, mov't) then you better be doing that with your lures. That usually occurs during specific feeding periods (mostly summertime). The other 90% of the time color is or should be your last consideration. My .02

it depends on what kind of bait your buying I bet american shad would be a good jerkbait color along with aurora black and gold, and a perch color. They sure have some sweet crawfish colors on there crankbaits. what ever color you buy dont lose them $$$.

Those shad colors kinda look like salmon, don't y'all think?
I've heard there are a few salmon around these parts! Especially... say... in Lake Washington around April and May... say... in the Hurt Locker!

Since most of "our" lakes have mostly perch and bluegill I would say shad color...NOT. Also I have had some good fish on trout colors and "reds".

The Columbia has shad, I know that's not a "lake", but an awful lot of it fished like a lake...... Ghost minnow, chartruese shad have been my two best colors - although I haven't tried many other than those two.

Bluegill I think would be the right choice. How many lakes in Wa. have shad? I would use bass, trout, perch, crawfish and in E. Wa. something that matches a black-nose dace. They are a smaller fish, so that may be hard to match. What do the fish you catch burp up when you catch them?
