Me and the ole man hit Goodwin yesterday. The weather sucked, I've never got so cold and wet this time of the year. Anyways we waited for the rain to die a little bit, and launched around 7am ish. My dad caught one dink smallie pretty early, and then we headed over to the other side of the lake on a big rocky flat, and it was as calm as glass. I tied on a crankbait, and started working that, and about 4 casts later, it snapped off, and flung about 40 yards away from us. After it hit the water, about two seconds later something boiled on it, I was in shock, not to mention  there goes another 5 dollar plug. So we headed over to the plug, and got lucky to the fact that fish didnt swallow it. After putting two and two together, I decided hmmm, maybe that calls for a top-water. So I tied my favorite one on, and started working it on the same flat, and got one scrappy 1.5 smallie on. Then we headed to another large rocky flat, and I picked up 3 more smallie on it. After that we began seeing some big largies in the area, and I got to see for the first time, two of them in the act of spawning. They wouldnt hit anything in the book, so we started coving water, by fishing docks, and looking around. The topwater bite ended around 9:30, and we fished drop shots the rest of the day. We ended up catching a few more smallies, and two largies around noon. One largie was an absolute snake, and 16 inches long, the other one was a real nice 17" -3lber. So the total for the day was 8 smallies, and two largies in about 6 hours.
