Speed limit when towing a boat trailer

Everyone,

Jose and Larry have told me that the maximum speed limit on the freeway when towing a boat trailer is the same as the lower truck speed limit.  I went over to the Washington State Patrol this morning and confirmed this.  I've attached copies of the Washington state rules describing this for your own eyes to see.

When we are towing a boat we are considered a "combination" of vehicles, which requires us to use the lower speed limit that applies to trucks, or "combination vehicles", which usually means 60 mph on the freeway, not the 70 mph that passenger vehicles can go that don't have a trailer.  Those big trucks and any vehicle towing a trailer all have the same, lower speed limit.

When you read the attached regulations ignore the part about "auto stages"  because  that does not apply to us.

This  first picture just shows the RCW number the rule is contained in.  The actual language talking about this is down lower in the next post.

This is the part that talks about the lower speed limit for combination vehicles, which is what we are considered to be when we are towing a boat, see section 2.

Thanks for the info, but I'll still do 70.  I couldn't handle being passed by all the trucks!

Drive the speed consistent with the flow of the traffic in a safe manner given road and weather conditions. Driving in an unsafe manner will get you pulled over quicker than simply speeding. How often is the flow of traffic going the posted speed limit?

I agree, if Semi's are passing you then speed up.  I always try to hit the bottom of Vantage hill at 75 for momentum.  Had a Crown Vic behind me last weekend, he didn't mind.

I'm always traveling with the flow of traffic or faster. This is while towing a 30' travel trailer Smiley Cops seem to appreciate it when I pass them.
