Boat & Trailer Security

Naomi & I are planning to take our boat down to California this year and I am wondering how other folks keep their boats and trailers secure while traveling.  I have locks for the trailer tongue and spare tire and I have a cover for the boat but I am thinking about an alarm for the boat.  TH Marine had one with mixed reviews.  I looked at the Loc-R-Bar but that only seems to work with fiberglass boats and not our aluminum Bass Tracker. Looking forward to your comments.

Consider getting a battery operated driveway chime. It is a simple motion sensor with a base unit. The remote sensor is battery operated, lasts for a year or more. The base station runs on battery or 110v. I get a good 160 feet of range out of mine but with clear line of sight you can get more.

I use this for my driveway but it might work out well if you put it under the boat cover. If someone starts getting into the boat under the cover it may be good at detecting that.

For the Loc-R-Bar I found a method on Bass Boats Central. You may come over and take a look.

Rodney, that looks like a great solution for the Loc-R-Bar install, where did you get your brackets?  Nixon's Marine was at the sportsmen's show last night and suggested getting some milled out of billet and then using carriage bolts to secure them so there is no way to unbolt them with the bar in place.

Thanks,

Tim

Took a bit to find it but here is the thread I used. Scroll down and there are great pictures of the self .made brackets. I have plenty of left over material if you want.

I liked Darren's idea of a driveway chime.  I had a friend who used those and they seem to work well!

We use a remote, wireless baby alarm, complete with controllable video camera & sound.

Thanks to Rodney's advice I have been able to make the brackets and install the Loc-R-Bar security device on Naomi & my aluminum Bass Tracker Pro Team 175 TF.  Now I can feel more comfortable taking the boat on trips longer than 1 day.
