Stickleback

Most of the year they have a silver belly with a greenish blue back.  The males will turn almost black with an orange belly when they spawn.

Those of you who have fished Lake Washington this week,  (in preparation for the June Tournament), have been seeing 2 inch bait fish/fingerlings breaking the water's surface everywhere.  Anyone got any idea as to what they are?  If my memory serves me correctly, the only time this happened ten years ago was when the salmon smolt came through - can that be happening at this time of year?

And having been absent from fishing Lake Washington for a decade, I was shocked to catch rock bass everywhere.  That's new.  I was just reading that shad, walleye, and even Northern Pike have been netted recently.  Someone is illegally planting them, having no concept of the environmental consequences.  Wow, turn your back for a few years and the whole lake is changing!
