From the prez

Hey,

Happy
almost spring time! Almost there, almost there, almost there. Thanks to everyone who helped out at the Sportsman's Show booth. A great big thanks to Tyler and Trevor Hankinson for the BIG help selling raffle tickets and putting on those kid smiles. Awesome job. And Virgil, thank you for selling yourself to sell the tickets. I haven't had any "victims" call me to press charges for harassment. I guess we're okay. Thanks for the help. Sales were slow at first but picked up over the weekend. One last push this month to sell tickets and I think we'll be in good shape. Keep it up, gang.

All's well, Larry has a handle on tournaments and we're ready to go… I think! Hang in there, April is coming fast! Let's talk fishing for a minute. I made the freeze-in this past weekend and even though it's February 11th, bass were caught and fishing was better than some days in the summer. Don't give up the fishing guys, winter isn't as bad as you think.

I hope to see some new faces at the meeting this month. If you're thinking about attending or better yet, joining the club, call me for directions or a ride if you need one.

Thank you to the board and all the effort you guys have put in. This year should be a great one.

The lawn ain't growin'… Go fishing!

Talkin' Tournaments with the Vice President

Hey folks, is it spring yet? Because it's about time for some shallow water fishing!

But first I think we all need to take a look at our checklist to see what's needed for the year:

  • Insurance: $100,000 liability for 50HP or less, and $300,000 for over 50HP
  • Life vest--Remember, it has to be made for you. Myself, I had to upgrade to an XXL. If you are not sure what you need, take it with you to a community swimming pool. If, without paddling, the vest keeps you buoyant (upright) and will not lose its buoyancy, then it should be fine. Something to consider… If you buy an insta-inflatable or manual inflatable you have to (on some) manually-activated units pull the cord. If you are knocked unconscious, who will pull it? For all inflatables, who will re-inflate it as pressure bleeds off?

Those are some things to think about as you look at your plans for the year. As we get closer to April, and the Draw Tournament, I will be going over items and shortcuts that will prepare you and your boat. GOT MOLD (on your boat deck or carpet)? Woolite foaming carpet cleaner scrubbed in with a brush and towel-dried on a sunny day can do wonders, and it does not fade colors.

Look for more tips coming up!
